These are terms you will hear our technicians use. Knowing what some of these are can help you get your network secure.

Virus and Spam Filtering/Mail Scrubbing
The detection and prevention of illegitimate content from being sent via email. This is essential because 92% of emails are illegitimate (including spam, virus and phishing).
Phishing
An attempt to send an email that appears to come from a legitimate business (ie. EBay, a bank, PayPal) asking for your username/password/SSN. Most common are emails that look like they come from your bank claiming your account has been fraudulently accessed and asking you to click a link, login to your account and verify your recent transactions. When you click you are taken to a site that looks identical to your bank site, but when you log in to the "bank's" site (really the hackers' site that looks exactly like your bank's site), they reply that the database is temporarily down, but in the mean time they have your username and password to your bank account! Phishing emails are usually very "urgent" and may use words like "fraud" in the subject line.
Hosting
Providing application, file, email or web services on our servers in our controlled environment (backup power, environment monitoring, etc).
Firewall
A firewall is the gateway between your computer and the internet. Up Time uses your firewall as a portal to manage your network health. Advanced features include in-line content filtering for web and email. Firewalls provide better management, monitoring, and security than a network without one.
Web Usage Monitoring
Find out who is surfing where and how often! Includes top sites surfed to, approximate time spent and bandwidth used.
Internet Statistics Reporting
Detailed statistics about internet usage including surfing, most talkative hosts, graphs, charts and history down to the individual connection level.
VPN (Virtual Private Network)
A VPN allows you to use your existing internet connection to connect to your office from a remote location. It creates an encrypted and secured tunnel so information that passes between the two locations is unintelligible to hackers.
